We continue to spotlight some of the unsigned seniors that remain here in North Carolina, and 2024 Isaiah Washington is certainly one that college coaches continue to recruit. He recently added another offer from Duquesne, and schools continue to make him a priority. We talked to Washington about the latest, his team-first mindset heading into the season, and more.
Phenom: What is your mindset and focus personally for you heading into the season'
Washington: I’m just focused on doing anything to win for my team, and staying focused on winning HoopState and many other big tournaments Coach Lowe has put us in. And I’m making sure that my team chemistry is great.
Phenom: What are your individual goals for you'
Washington: Honestly for myself, I just want to win from a team perspective in general, not really an individual goal but I could say continue to shoot 40 percent from three and continue to prove to everyone what I can do that people aren’t believing in and I feel like I proved that a lot last year. But this year will be even better.
Phenom: What has been the latest in your recruitment'
Washington: St. Bonaventure, Duquesne, East Carolina, NC A&T, VCU, West Virginia, and Michigan… those are a few.
Phenom: Any other schools showing interest that haven’t offered'
Washington: Marshall and San Diego State
Phenom: Do you have any time frame of when you may decide'
Washington: December-January
When we asked about the schools that have been making him a priority, Washington mentioned that he is going to keep it private and close, as he would like to keep it as a surprise. Washington recently participated in the NC Top 80, where we had this to say:
“Continuing onto a player who continues to maintain his status as one of the most polished scorers in the state, Isaiah Washington. He’s a long, skilled, athletic wing prospect with the ability to apply seemingly constant scoring pressure from all levels. Offensively, Washington is a reliable shooter, both off the catch and dribble, and strong finisher around the basket. He can play through contact, meet opponents at the rim, and set up others as needed. Washington displays a great balance between taking what he wants and taking what the defense gives him. He contains his assignment well defensively and rebounds at a quality rate for his size/position. Next in his development process is working to get quicker, as it would make him a better defender at the point of attack. Coach Kuhn on Washington: “Isaiah is a great teammate. He’s the type of person who takes ownership of his play at all times. He possesses a strong body and well-rounded skillset that translates to the Division I level.” Washington highlighted a lot of ability during his time at camp and should continue to stockpile offers over the coming months with Winston-Salem Christian.”
