The Upward Stars Combine was a sensational event, and we at Phenom Hoops want to thank all the staff there for allowing us to check out the talent. Many players from North and South Carolina were on deck, and we got a great refreshing view of players as well as learn about a few new names as well.
2025 Zeke Marshall (Westside): Marshall is an interesting prospect with his long length and athleticism on the court. He can play and operate in a variety of ways on the court, as well as continue to be a dual-sport athlete. Marshall impacts the game in a variety of ways, whether it is scoring, finishing at the rim, rebounding, and being that versatile piece on the court. He had a strong year last year and could garner more attention this upcoming season.
2025 Brian Sumpter (Keenan): Sumpter is one we have had our eyes on for quite some time now, but we certainly have noticed that he has gotten bigger and stronger, as he continues to develop his game. Sumpter’s length as a forward can create trouble for opponents as he can block shots, but also be an effective offensive option that moves well and runs the court.
2025 Malachi Cooper (Ridge View): Cooper continues to build upon a strong summer, where he not only was able to show more of his game but he recently earned his first D1 offer. Cooper should be part of a loaded group at Ridge View, as he brings great size at the guard position, and is a strong creator in finding his shot from multiple levels.
2025 Tristan Thompson (Wilson): Thompson continues to grow on me on what he can provide on the court, as he has really excelled in showing he can play multiple positions. He has no issue battling and finishing down low in the paint and around the basket, as well as going up against bigger opponents but he also has the skillset to take opponents out along the perimeter. He continues to be used in a variety of ways, which should only appeal to more college coaches.
