What Was Recently Said:

Although the Carolina Riptide organization always has a slew of talented prospects, it’s becoming clearer and clearer that Will Stevens is emerging as their next notable star. He’s a long, fluid big man with soft touch, sharp vision, and reliable floor-spacing ability. Stevens has played up for the entirety of the spring, yet arguably stands out as the most productive piece on this roster. He continues to get stronger and more athletic, as evidenced by his physicality around the basket and ability to play above the rim at an increased rate. Stevens moves very well for his size, both in tight spaces and when running the floor in transition. He utilizes his length and timing extremely well to alter/block shots and secure rebounds on both ends of the floor. Overall, Stevens possesses a very straightforward, low-maintenance identity. He’s already versatile enough to take whatever the defense gives him, and will only become more difficult to stop with additional strength. Though slightly different players, don’t be surprised if his trajectory looks somewhat similar to the most recent noteworthy big man to emerge from this program (who is currently stockpiling Division I offers).

What to Expect:

Going forward, it feels like Stevens should only continue to get better and better. At a long, wiry 6-foot-8, he’s already able to cause a lot of problems for opponents on both ends of the floor. Stevens is quite skilled, especially for his size, and is capable of producing in various different ways. He can post-up, work in the midrange, space the floor, or punish opposing big men in the two-man game. Stevens plays above the rim whenever possible, but also finishes effectively around the basket with either hand. Defensively, he displays great instincts to position himself to alter/block shots and understands recovery/rotations quite well. Stevens is a fluid athlete with a high motor and willingness to consistently battle on the glass. He naturally sets the tone on both ends of the floor. Although already quite impressive, it feels like Stevens should only continue to trend upward over the foreseeable future. Given the new-look structure of Davidson Day, it feels like everything is in place for him to have a lot of success.
