What a weekend it was, as big-time names came off the board with commitments being announced. Several programs got better over the weekend, with a few names that Phenom Hoops is quite familiar with. So we dive into what you may have missed and each of their games.
2024 Cam Scott commits to Texas
We started off the week with a huge commitment from a guy we have watched for quite a few years, even as far as when he was in eighth grade. 2024 6’6 Cam Scott announced that Texas would be his next home, as it gets the Longhorns their first commitment in 2024 and it is a big one. Regarded as one of the top prospects in his class, Scott should be able to come in immediately and provide help to the program. Long, athletic, high IQ, skilled, versatile… he checks off a lot of boxes. Here is what we have said before about him:
“With his long 6’6 frame, there isn’t a position, an area, or a situation where he doesn’t seem to thrive. When dissecting his game, Scott is a high-level athlete; that is something you can see immediately in warm-ups when he is throwing down windmills with ease. But how he uses that athleticism on the court and in games is impressive, as he continues to show there isn’t a shot he isn’t comfortable taking, he can rise over defenders from multiple levels at ease, and he can get to his spot when he wants. Add on top his IQ, his ability to impact the game out in transition, his unselfishness on the floor, his elite vision and passing ability (something he should receive more praise for), and his impact on the defensive end, and there are just so many factors in his game that have college coaches salivating over what he could be at the next level.”
2024 Peyton Marshall heading to Missouri
Once committed to Auburn, Marshall announced this past weekend that he would be staying in the SEC and committing to Missouri. Marshall is a true big man that can be a strong presence down in the paint, as we spoke about his game earlier this year. “The 7-footer certainly brings the size and frame to carve out space down in the paint. When watching him a few times, he continues to be effective around the basket, finishing strong at the rim, bullying opponents, and being physical.”
Notre Dame gets its guy in 2024 Sir Mohammed
Another in-state, North Carolina prospect is off the table and Notre Dame is riding high as of late with the latest commitments. Mohammed is a tremendous piece for the Fighting Irish, as he is one that can help in a variety of ways. He brings size at 6’6, can help run the offense, plays at a tremendous pace, can create tough matchups, has the ability to score and finish strong, and has a very high IQ for the game. You know what you are going to get with Mohammed, as he should be able to blend right into Notre Dame’s system and be a tremendous piece for multiple years.
Kansas strikes big with 2024 Flory Bidunga
It was a HUGE weekend for the Jayhawks, as they got a program-changing piece to man the middle in the coming years. Having had a chance to watch him a few times over the years, Bidunga checks off so many boxes with his game and his sheer presence in the paint. He knows how to be a dominant force, looking to rip the rim off, being physical down on the block, displaying athleticism and footwork, and simply being a demanding physical piece on both sides of the court. Kansas has had tremendous success with bigs in the past, and I expect him to be an immediate impact player.
2024 Colin White calls Ohio State home
Phenom Hoops spoke with White when he announced his Top 5, as he has this to say about the Buckeyes: “I have been talking to Ohio State for a year or two now, so I have a great relationship with them. Coach Diebler and Coach Holtmann are great and the way they play is awesome. They have a great track record of developing guards and sending them to the next level. Their culture is great, and I love their guys and how they carry themselves. Aside from last year, Coach Holtmann has been in the tournament every year there. So they know how to win and compete at a high level.” White, who is a 6’3 guard from Ohio, will be staying home and providing the Buckeyes a true weapon to team up with John Mobley, another guard committed for the class of 2024 at Ohio State.
