Each and every time Phenom Hoops gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Ryan Soulis
Class: 2023
Committed to: Richmond

What He Said:

Phenom: What made Richmond the place for you in the end'
Soulis: Coach Mooney and his coaching staff really believe in me. We have built a strong relationship since my official visit there, where I felt very welcomed by everyone.  They have a vision and plan for me in which I join a team and system with a playing style that really suits me and is also similar to the one I played in high school this past year. Overall, a great program and school.”

Phenom: What is their vision for you and how you can fit into their program' How do they hope to use you'
Soulis: Coach Mooney has been successful with skilled bigs and plays with a system that uses them a lot. On halfcourt sets, the ball enters the bigs’ hands and lets them make plays with their teammates moving on the perimeter and finding them open. Along with my development, I’m going to be used to make those right reads and work from the perimeter and the post on the offensive end, as well as be an effective versatile defender.

Phenom: With you now in 2023 and heading off, what will be your focus now'
Soulis: Development. Improving and working as much as possible. I have a lot to work on from a basketball and physical standpoint, and can’t wait to do that.  Learning, studying, adapting to the system, and putting myself in the best possible position for the future with the team.

What Was Said by Phenom:

“I got a feeling that Soulis is going to be a name you start hearing a lot more about and will be catching on with college coaches. Deservingly so, as he is a 6’10 prospect that continues to consistently produce and make his impact on the court.  First and foremost, this is a big that competes; he stays active and engaged throughout the game, plays hard on the boards and has a knack for getting his hands on the ball, he shows poise and touch with his back to the basket and in the post, and he also is able to make plays on the defensive end.  Soulis is one that continues to rise in my books and think he has a chance to be a player many more schools will like.”

“If a program is looking for a big, I would be looking at Soulis. Great size and length, moves well and is always active, nice instincts on the boards, fluid offensively with touch around the basket, and does a nice job in beating his defenders and playing with a motor.”

“Soulis is another new name here in North Carolina and one to pay attention to.  He has the size that you like at 6’10 but what you had to notice about his game was his activity level on the court, his ability to run the floor, his mobility, how he competes, and his ability to score around the basket. Nearly finished with a solid double-double on Day 2 and captured several of our eyes at the event.”
