What Was Recently Said: Although he still possesses a massive amount of upside, there is already a ton of intrigue with the young, bouncy McKinnon. For starters, he will bring an element and overall dynamic that Lake Norman desperately needs within their lineup. He’s a long, athletic forward prospect with constant flashes of skill and the instincts to defend multiple positions defensively. McKinnon is a very active rebounder with a quick second and third burst, which allows him to grab boards and push the break when necessary. He displays touch around the basket, but also shows the makings of a respectable jumper along the perimeter. Though young, McKinnon should already have a clear role and emerge as a definite asset for Lake Norman. Expect to hear his name a lot more going forward.

What To Expect:

Going forward, all signs point to McKinnon having a breakout season for the Wildcats. Not only should his individual numbers take a leap, but it feels like their general style will only benefit from having someone like him in a leadership role. At 6-foot-5, McKinnon is a long, rangy wing prospect with athleticism and shot-making ability. He’s an active rebounder and fairly versatile defender, understanding how to outwork opponents and position himself for success. McKinnon can effectively create his own shot or find opportunities without requiring the ball in his hands. He’s arguably at his best in transition, but is more than comfortable at attacking closeouts and setting up others or applying pressure at the rim. There’s a lot to like with his game and overall trajectory, so it’ll be interesting to see what programs choose to get involved going forward.
