Given the fact that the next July Live Period is right around the corner, it feels like no better time to start introducing some of the players that college coaches should be monitoring. Currently amidst the busiest recruiting month of the year, our Hardwood Classic should be a hotbed for coaches and players alike. As usual, Phenom Hoops will have prospects of all levels in attendance. This series will continue by taking a closer look at Richard Goods of Carolina Clutch.
We’ve watched Goods throughout his high school journey, recently stating, “Next, we look at a player who possesses a ton of enticing tools and physical traits, Richard Goods. He’s a long, mobile, athletic post prospect with toughness and the ability to physically overwhelm opponents on both ends of the floor. Goods moves well for his size, finishes above the rim, and blocks shots at a consistent rate. He’s a useful rebounder who can capitalize effectively in transition. Next in his development process is working on playing more around the basket as opposed to shooting perimeter jumpers, as it’ll only make him more effective as a scorer. Coach Goodman on Goods: “Richard is solid around the basket and has the explosion to finish above the rim. He’s a physical player that initiates contact and doesn’t shy away. Richard can work on playing harder and staying engaged within the flow of the game.” Goods highlighted a variety of positive flashes at camp, and should be able to emerge as a leader during the upcoming season for Piedmont Classical.”
Since then, Goods has only continued to boost his stock as a prospect. Between his time with Team Loaded and Boo Williams, he generated a lot of buzz from college coaches. He’s a long, strong, athletic big man with a nice blend of touch, skill, and defensive instincts. When Goods is looking to physically overpower opponents around the basket, he’s incredibly difficult to stop. He finishes well out of the post, but can also space the floor effectively from midrange or beyond the arc. Goods moves very well for his size and is capable of causing problems for opponents when running the floor in transition. He blocks shots at a healthy rate, rebounds on both ends, and still possesses clear upside as a long-term prospect. It’s easy to see the appeal, so expect Goods to continue collecting offers over the coming months.
