Players all throughout the state continue to shine and develop as a player, and it is great to hear that college programs are taking notice.  One player that should be rising up the ranks and earning more attention is 2024 6’7 Mason Smith.

Phenom Hoops spoke about Smith’s intrigue and play recently at the NCISAA LIVE Period, where we had this to say:

“Smith had people talking about his play at the LIVE Period, as the 6’7 prospect is one that was lighting it up and showcasing his shot-making ability.  Time after time, Smith was getting to his spots, expanding the offense, and making opponents pay from the perimeter. He has a very fluid and smooth release from deep, and he was filling it up.  But he also did a tremendous job in using his size in a variety of other ways; rebounding, being a versatile defender, and being a presence inside and out.  He was really opening a ton of eyes with his play, and he should see his stock rise with college coaches.”

We then wrote more about his game here (An Elite Shooting Threat: Mason Smith)

In speaking more with Smith, he talked more about the schools that have been reaching out and his excitement about playing with Davidson Day.

Recruitment Update:

“Over the last month or two, I’ve received a good amount of interest from a lot of Division I schools. Schools like UNC-Asheville, UTEP, UNCW, Mercer, South Carolina, Ohio, Lafayette, American, Navy, and Army have all shown interest.  Some of them have just reached out once or twice to tell me that they are really interested in me and will continue watching this upcoming July and want to stay in touch with me. Others though, such as Asheville, Mercer, UTEP, Navy, American, and Lafayette have expressed a lot of interest and have been in heavy contact with me just about recruiting and about me and my life with basketball, and how our team camps have been going.”

Excitement about playing at Davidson Day:

“I am extremely excited for this upcoming season at Davidson Day. We have a lot of talent and even though the majority of us just transferred, it feels like we’ve been playing with each other for years.  Our chemistry is fantastic, and we all get along very well. We never play selfishly and always help uplift each other when something goes wrong.  It is always a next play mentality. Our team can be something very special this year, we just have to keep on working every day and getting closer as friends and teammates. Overall, I think this Davidson Day team can definitely be one to remember.”
