Last summer, Phenom Hoops was starting to introduce our readers to players all around the country and one of those players was 2026 6’3 Desmond Bellot Jr from Cats Academy.  Watching Bellot Jr. at the CP3 Camp over the summer, he quickly impressed with his game, helping him earn tremendous honors at the camp.

And when we talked to him more about his game, this is how he described it:

“I would describe my game as a poised and versatile prospect.  I like to be in control and play at my pace. I’m also able to score at all three levels while being unselfish and creating for my teammates.”

Well, the freshman prospect has only continued his strong play this season at Cats Academy, helping lead the charge and really elevate his play even more for his team.

“It’s been decent,” Bellot Jr. told Phenom Hoops. “It took us a while to figure out what our guys can do and how to play with each other, but now we’re good now. For me personally, I’ve been doing pretty well. I’ve learned my role as a scorer but also getting my guys involved while trusting them to make the shot or right play. Just trying to stay consistent with how I’m playing.

Bellot Jr. admits that his game has grown from the start of the season to where he is today. Not only has it been a smooth transition since he has been playing a big role for his team for quite some time now, but also allowed him to get a better understanding of what he is capable of doing as a player.

“I’ve really gotten the opportunity to understand myself as a player this season,” Bellot Jr. said. “My IQ, pace, ability to create for myself and others off paint touches, being a better point guard and leader, and my understanding of the importance of defense are all things I’ve really grown on this school season. I’ve been playing varsity basketball since I was 13, but this was the year I had to really play how I wanted and understand myself as a player. It’s important I get all the mistakes and flaws out of my game now so I can grow and prepare for the big stage.”

Bellot Jr. has put on a show this season on several occasions and seems to be opening more eyes his way quickly. And his play this high school season should only continue this summer, as he is excited about this summer with Expressions EYBL and showing them more of what he has worked on.

“I’m very excited about summer ball and I’m playing with Expressions EYBL this summer. I’m excited to play in front of all the college coaches and to show them what I’ve been working on. I also can’t wait to play the best kids in the country, because I know I’m one of them. I’ve been preparing for it all school year. Everyone has been working now it’s time to put that work to the test.”
