Each and every time Phenom Hoops gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day. It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.
Here is the latest commitment.
Player: Sam Walters
Class: 2023
Committed to: Florida Southern College
What Was Said:
“Sam Walters is probably slightly under the radar at this point. Most players who fill the glue-guy void typically go about their business and find ways to produce within the flow of the action—and Walters is no different. He consistently stood out as a leader and major cog for PSB Larkin throughout the summer. Walters operated as a main ball-handler and playmaker, highlighting IQ, vision, and an understanding of how to apply pressure to opposing defenses. He’s a strong finisher who absorbs contact well and displays touch with either hand. Walters is also a reliable defender and rebounder with the ability to naturally fills in the gaps on both ends of the floor. He plays hard and regularly outworks opponents for extra opportunities. This season, Walters will be an extremely valuable role player for the Mustangs. While his raw numbers and per-game averages won’t be gaudy, context clearly matters. The context is that he’ll be a vital piece within one of the most talented rosters in the state. Expect a slew of different schools to pursue Walters over the coming months.”
“Myers Park is going to be must-see TV with the amount of talent they have on the court. But Walters is going to be an absolutely critical piece to this team for what he brings, as college programs are starting to notice his impact. He is that glue guy, that player that doesn’t need to be in the spotlight to be effective, and does anything that he needs to do to help his team win. He is a quality defender, is tough and scrappy while not being afraid to be physical, and just does the dirty work. His leadership will be crucial for his team this year.”
“Walters just may be Myers Park “X factor” and is the definition of heart, hustle and hard work. He may just be one of the hardest playing prospects in the state. Walters gives maximum effort on both ends of the court every possession. With Walters, he simply doesn’t take plays off and is the perfect complement to this super talented teams. We were impressed with his overall fortitude and willingness to play aggressive and tough on the ball defense.”
“Versatility is key, and what’s great about Sam is not just his ability to play multiple positions but also his willingness to step up and accept varying assignments. With his 6’3 frame he plays much bigger than his size while demonstrating the skills to play a lead guard role, whether as a scorer, rebounder or defender. His strength is optimal for how he wants to play, getting downhill and putting an array of moves to work near the basket.”
