The holiday season is upon us, and we want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas first. Phenom Hoops is coming off a great 3-day event at the Anthony Morrow Shootout, which was hosted at Charlotte Latin on December 20-22.

What a week it was for the inaugural Anthony Morrow Shootout, as it gave fans from around the state a chance to watch high-level basketball right before the Christmas break.  Being the first year for the event, we couldn’t have asked for anything better.

It brought some of the best teams around the state all under one building and each game was extremely competitive. Not only did it have elite, nationally recognized teams but it also help shine on some of the bright talents in the area.

First of all, congratulations to all teams that participated in the event, and thank you to all the fans that came out and showed their support. Secondly, thank you to Charlotte Latin for their hospitality, and it gave that program a chance to showcase one of the premier facilities in the state.

Anthony Morrow has been a huge staple here in North Carolina and with his and everyone’s help, we were able to make this event possible. Much like Morrow said at the event, he has always wanted to bring an event like this to the area and he accomplished that in a big way with the basketball community. It also helped shine a light more on what he has been doing around the community elsewhere, especially with his foundation (Click Here). But we believe this is the start of something great here in North Carolina and nationally.

The Anthony Morrow Shootout has the chance to be one of the most recognized events before Christmas… it has the chance to be much like The John Wall Invitational here in North Carolina before the holidays; that is how much potential it has.

Phenom Hoops founder Rick Lewis had this to say about the future of the event.

“We are excited to partner with Anthony Morrow to provide what will become an annual event at his alma mater, Charlotte Latin. The inaugural Anthony Morrow presented by Phenom Hoops far exceeded our expectations. We had 7-8 defending state champions participate in the event. We strongly believe we can build upon the success and make this one of the premier pre-Christmas events in the country.”

We also spoke with Lawrence Gordon with Sport Mode One, another huge piece to the success of the event. He had this to say:

“Basketball has a way of bringing us together. I think this event will be a bridge builder for both public and private schools to compete and celebrate Charlotte’s best.”

There is no doubt about it, Year 1 was off the charts but it is just the start of something that will be huge and recognized as one of the premier pre-Christmas events in the country. So get ready basketball fans, as Year 2 and future events look to be something special.
