Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Colin Fayed
Class: 2023
Committed to: Roanoke

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“Colin Fayed is a high IQ point guard who has a great feel for the game. At the point guard position, he understands how to run the team and get others involved. He is a crafty ball handler with a quick first step that he uses to get into the paint where he has a nice touch on his floaters. He also does a good job of penetrating and kicking to open shooters. From the perimeter, he shoots the ball well in catch and shoot situations, so he is able to slide off the ball and be a threat from three. The next step in his development will be adding strength to his frame so that he can finish at a higher level against contact at the basket. On the defensive end, he does a good job of staying in front of ball handlers and understands team defensive principles.”

“He’s a young, wiry point guard prospect with polish and a high IQ on both sides of the ball. Fayed is a great creator that plays bigger than his size would imply on defense and on the glass. He knows how to be a floor general but can also spot-up quite effectively from midrange or beyond the arc. Coach Dawkins on Fayed: “Colin is a very solid point guard with a high IQ and team-first mentality. He gets the ball out quick in transition and can finish or setup his teammates for easy buckets. Colin sprints the floor and controls the pace of the game nicely for his age.” Fayed enjoyed a quality showing at camp and could be one to watch progress over the coming years at Gaston Day.”

“Colin is the son of former Winthrop point guard, Mike Fayed, who is third all-time on Winthrop’s career assists list with 557 assists. So, it comes as no surprise that he has a great feel for the game and how to run a team. Gaston Day Head Coach Trent McCallister stated, “Colin is a crafty ball handler with a quick first step. He is able to get into the paint, make the right reads, and set up teammates for shots.” He does a nice job of pushing the ball in transition and is able to control the tempo of the game. He connects on interior passes for layups by playing under control and he is able to find open shooters in drive and kick situations. One thing that has really stuck out to me is Colin’s ability to hit shooters in the numbers on passes. This seems like a small thing, but as a passer, this is extremely important because a good or bad pass could be the difference in getting your shooter an open look or taking him out of a shot altogether. Colin is also a really good three-point shooter. For his high school team at Gaston Day, he played some off the ball given his ability to catch and shoot. His effectiveness to make the three-point shot allows him to easily attack off the catch against closeouts. He is able to get to the midrange where he can knock down the pull-up jumper and floaters over bigger defenders.”
