Players that have been going a bit under the radar in the state of North Carolina are now starting to earn more attention their way and 2023 6’7 Caleb Surgers is one of those players.  The unsigned senior had earned a few offers but recently announced he received his first Division I offer, one he is very excited about.

Phenom Hoops recently saw Surgers in action during our Open Gym Tour at Panther Creek, and we had this to say about his game:

“Expect Surgers to have a strong senior season. He is a strong and athletic forward who can guard multiple positions. Surgers excels getting downhill where he can finish above the rim with either hand. He is very active on the glass and sports a high motor.”

We spoke to Surgers about the offer and much more about his recruitment. See what he had to say.

Phenom: What was it like to get that offer from Navy' What went through your head when hearing about it'
Surgers: It has always been a dream to get the opportunity to play at the Division I level and, in my head, all I could think of is how thankful I am that all my hard work is starting to pay off.

Phenom: How did you hear about the offer'
Surgers: The head coach brought me and my dad into his office and after a long conversation, he offered me a scholarship spot.

Phenom: What did they have to say when they offered' What did they like about your game'
Surgers: They said they liked my athleticism and the fact that I can guard all position 1-5. They also liked how I can play inside and outside the perimeter, attacking the basket and shooting when needed.

Phenom: What are your thoughts on the program'
Surgers: I think they are a very well-coached program, coached by a very experienced group of coaches.  Also, the program has a great group of players that from watching their practice, seem to give it their all in every rep and want to compete.

Phenom: What other schools have you been hearing from'
Surgers: I’ve been hearing from Florida A&M, Navy, Charlotte, Concordia St. Paul, Belmont Abbey, and other Division III schools as well.
