In the class of 2025, Mikel Brown Jr. is going to be a name that you hear quite often, as the guard should certainly have a few stars next to his name. Phenom Hoops had a chance to watch the young man in action at the Adidas All-American Camp, where he was a hot topic with many scouts and onlookers. Brown also recently announced that he would be playing for Sunrise Christian next year, as he will be one of the top young talents on the team.
We break down a little more of what we saw, as well as some of the latest news in his recruitment.
What We Saw:
One of the younger prospects at the All-American Camp, Brown was all the talk by several national outlets including Phenom Hoops from what we saw. This young guard wasn’t afraid of being in the spotlight and going up against some of the premier talents in the country; in fact, he elevated his play to show that he belonged. When you talk about Brown’s game from what we saw, you first have to talk about his shot-making ability. He has deep range on his shot with a high arch, but he is a very confident shooter that has a quick release and can knock down tough shots with little space. But you add on top his pace, his feel and creativity with the ball in his hands, his shiftiness on the court, and his ability to find teammates, Brown is an exciting playmaker on the court. And one thing is for sure, he went at his opponents and didn’t back down from the competition.
Recruitment:
Though he is still only part of the 2025 class, college programs aren’t wasting any time in letting him know that they are interested in what he could bring down the road. After the Adidas All-American Camp, Brown added three more offers to his list. Texas was the first to jump on board and offer, while Kansas and Texas Tech shortly followed with an offer.
Those three now join Baylor, Auburn, Florida, Texas A&M, Seton Hall, and a few others that have already offered the 2025 prospect.
