Start adding the name to your list for 2025 in North Carolina if you haven’t already, as 6’5 Malachi Simpson is a name to start getting familiar with really quick.  Phenom Hoops was the most recent platform to watch Simpson at the Phenom Summer Showcase, and there wasn’t a doubt in his game and what he could potentially be.

He is an athletic prospect with great size already, one that really excels in getting downhill and scoring the ball. He is quick, shifty, and creates well off the bounce as well.  Simpson put on a show at the Summer Showcase and then backed it up with an impressive showing at Western Carolina’s camp.  So much, so that he eventually took home his first offer from WCU.

We spoke with Simpson to get his take on his game and earning his first offer.  Here is what he had to say:

Summer Ball/ Game Description:

Phenom: What has it been like so far this summer playing with NLPB and how do you think you played recently at the Summer Showcase'
Simpson: I love NLPB. They are a great program and I’m blessed to be a part of them.  I was able to showcase my talent by working hard and working on my game all the time.  It is showing and I feel like I’m really underrated, and I want to put Hendersonville on the map, so I’m always working.

Phenom: How would you best describe your game and where are you trying to improve'
Simpson: I like my game at a fast pace, but I will slow it down if needed.  (Areas I’m trying to improve in are) playing defense, and I think my shooting and ball-handling.

Earning First Offer:

Phenom: What was it like to get that offer from Western Carolina'
Simpson: Man, it is a blessing. I have always dreamed about getting that first offer and when you just work, it pays off and I am beyond blessed and thankful for the opportunity.

Phenom: How did the camp go overall'
Simpson: I feel like I was one of the best players out there. I was a leader and just being that guy in everything I was doing and just stepping up. I think it went really well. I love the school and the coaching staff; great program, I loved it.
