There are so many programs out there that are looking for their next lead point guard, one that can run the show and be a coach on the floor.  One guard that we have watched a few times recently has been 2024 6’2 Styles Phipps from St. Mary’s high school.

The Arizona point guard was one of the standouts at the Pango’s Best of Arizona and proved himself once again at Pango’s All-American camp, bringing some of the top players around the country all under one building.

When watching his game, Phipps proves that he is a high IQ, crafty guard leading the charge, always seeing the floor and making terrific decisions. Whether he is getting out in transition or running the halfcourt offense, Phipps displays great court vision but also is an effective scorer in knocking down shots from outside or finishing strong around the basket.  He is a very efficient point guard and one that you can simply trust in making the right decision on the court.

That is why it will be interesting to see who else gets involved in his recruitment. Right now, he holds offers from Auburn, UCSB, San Diego, Portland, TCU, and others.  But expect that list to only increase dramatically from what he has shown and with his continued development.

What Was Said:

“This was my first time viewing Phipps but certainly have heard of the young sophomore.  I was really impressed with what I saw; he played incredibly well on and off the ball, whether it was showing his handles and ability to create off the dribble or play off the ball and show his smooth, confident shot-making ability from multiple levels.  When you watch him, he is a strong guard and plays under control, seeing the floor well, getting around defenders, and making it look easy on several occasions.  Phipps can play at multiple paces on the court but remains under control, making smart decisions, and reading defenders well.  I expect him to only continue to rack in big-time offers throughout his high school career.”
