Phenom Hoops continues to bring you coverage in the state of Virginia, as we recently were up in the area for the VISAA semifinals to check out all the talent.  One player that we certainly remember and grabbed our attention was 2023 6’6 Joseph Baldwin from Fairfax Christian.

At the event, our very own Patrick O’Brien had this to say after watching Baldwin go for 25 points in his team’s win over Roanoke Catholic.

“I liked what I saw out of the 6’6 junior. He brings a nice blend of size, athleticism, skill, and ability to operate and defend multiple positions. He showed a nice fluid shot from outside, especially in catch and shoot situations, as well as being able to finish strong at or around the basket.”

When speaking more to Baldwin, he would talk about his motor skills, his ability to use his size and defend multiple positions, his ability to help on the boards, and his developing offensive skillset. Coming into the program two years ago, he was that energy type guy, but he has only continued to develop his ability to score the basketball, knock down shots, and really show how explosive he can be in the open floor and on both ends.

Baldwin also understands that he is still working on certain areas as well.

“I would say my basketball IQ, understanding the game, seeing the floor, and continuing to work on his shooting,” Baldwin said.

As far as his recruitment, though he doesn’t hold any offers yet, that could quickly turn around as he has the interest of several programs around the area. Baldwin mentioned schools like Georgetown, Virginia Tech, George Mason, Furman, Fordham, and a few other schools have shown strong interest in his game.

Baldwin though, wherever he plays this summer, will be one to watch as he continues to take strides in his game.
