These are the records for the Mooresville Blue Devils for the last 10 years in basketball. A program that has struggled at times to put together a winning season, is now having one of their best seasons to date this year under head coach Armard Moore, as he looks to change the culture.

As of today, the Blue Devils are 11-1 and 3-1 in conference play and it doesn’t seem like they are going anywhere any time soon this season.  Coach Moore, in his second season, is turning the program in a big way and it is starting to show with the fans and support they have seen behind the team.  Attending a game last week at Mooresville, walking in we didn’t know what to expect but as we turned the corner to head into the gym, and seeing the gym filled to support the Blue Devils, it couldn’t help put a smile on your face especially when you get to know Coach Moore even more.

He truly is passionate about his program and his players but he had to go through some growing pains last season to get where he is today.  Now, they are making noise in the 4A division and moving up the ranks in the state.  We spoke to Coach Moore about his mindset and what he has seen with this team that has turned this program all around this year.

Phenom: You are off to a great start. What has this season been like for you personally to see the change at Mooresville'
Moore: It means everything to me, to see that all of our guys have bought into me and these new coaches.  We came here to change the culture. This is our second season and we had a great offseason and it is showing on the court.

Phenom: When coming in, what did you want to do to change the culture there'
Moore: All we wanted was to make Mooresville basketball something to talk about.  First year here, the community really gravitated towards football, baseball, softball, and we wanted Mooresville basketball to be talked about on that level also.

Phenom: Your players really have bought in. What has that been like and the changes you have personally seen on the court from your guys'
Moore: It is all about believing. Our guys worked their butts off this offseason in the weight room, track, etc. and a lot of guys developed. They see coaches that really care and will go the extra mile and they know that we want the best for them. We came in with goals and we talked about things that had to change if they wanted our program to be successful. From the coaches, to the players, I think everyone is on the same page and you can see it in our play.

Phenom: How about the support from the fans and families. What has that been like for their support'
Moore: The fans have been great this season. They travel with us, they are really happy that Mooresville basketball is having some success. Our parents have been fantastic by letting us coach the way we do and trusting us with their sons. I’m so blessed to work with an amazing staff and I thank God every day for placing me at this school with these wonderful people. I see myself being here for a real long time. It was important to me to find a school that I can build and I can call mine and I think we are doing that here at Mooresville. I will forever be grateful for Charles Hopkins for believing in me.
