If you have been noticing in the Charlotte area for high school basketball on the girl’s side of things, Charlotte Catholic is certainly a team that will pop up as a must-see program this year. They have the talent, the depth, and the focus to make a title run this season. One sophomore, Gracynn Gough, spoke to Phenom Hoops about the team’s mentality and her focus, while also providing an update on her recruitment. Check out what she had to say.

Phenom: I know you and your team is extremely focused this year, looking for a title run.  What has it been like early on with this team and the overall focus you all have been playing with'
Gough: Overall, as a team, we are going for a championship mentality this season and working hard every day towards our goal of a title.  So far, we have focused on the little things such as defense, hustle, going for every loose ball, making the extra pass, and working together as a team to execute and finish.

Phenom: Just how good can this team be this year with the talent you all have, in your eyes'
Gough: I think that with our senior leadership and team depth, we have the capability to win a conference championship and compete for a state title.  We continue to focus on the little things and compete every time we step on the court.  I am very excited for this season and believe that this team can accomplish great things this year.

Phenom: What have you been looking to provide with this team'  You have shown to be strong down low and on the boards this season.
Gough: This season, I’ve been focusing on playing down low as well as stretching my game to the 3-point line.  Our team’s emphasis on defense has been tough man to man and help defense.  I have been working on being a vocal teammate on defense. I have also been working on communicating with my team and bringing energy on and off the court.  Along with stretching my game to the 3-point line, I am working on my mid-range shot and drive to the basket.

Gough recently received some terrific news as far as her recruitment, picking up her first offer from Presbyterian.  She spoke about her excitement with the offer, what has she seen from that program, and who else has been showing interest her way.

Phenom: Had to be exciting to earn your first offer from Presbyterian. What was that moment like for you'
Gough: After receiving my first offer, I couldn’t believe that I had the opportunity to play in college.  At first, I think I was in shock and didn’t really feel all my emotions until after the call with Coach Sharp.  Playing in college has always been a goal of mine since I was little and now that I have the opportunity to do so, I was beyond excited.  I am going to keep working every day and continue to push myself to be the best player I can be.

Phenom: What did the staff have to say when they offered'
Gough: When talking to Coach Sharp, they liked the energy and passion I brought to the game and my rebounding.  She reminded me that I was very young and to continue working and improving my game all around.

Phenom: Have any plans on visiting or anything'
Gough: Before receiving an offer from Presbyterian, I visited the school in November and I am hoping to catch a game this season.

Phenom: What did you like or what stood out when you visited'
Gough: When I visited the school, I really liked the environment and how everyone was very welcoming.  I loved the coaching staff and team and how energetic they were.  They were always hyping each other up and were a very close team, which I loved.

Phenom: What other schools have been showing interest your way'
Gough: Recently, I have spoken with Winthrop and Western Carolina.
