Going down to The Bash recently, Phenom Hoops was able to check in on a few teams as well as get a chance to watch some new talent on display. Orangeville Prep has been a known program with us at Phenom Hoops, having them in multiple events in the past but this was our first viewing of this year’s team and talent. And once again, this is a team that has talent that seems to be going under the radar. That is why we are diving into a few names that we saw that coaches may want to start looking at.

2022 6’11 Jeremy Foumena: Foumena was one of the names that I came in really intrigued in watching. Obviously, he brings the size at 6’11 but he backed it up with his impact on the floor, nearly recording three impressive double-doubles (came up two points short on Day 3).  Foumena was dominant on the boards, averaging 14.7 rebounds per game throughout the event. He plays strong, tremendous motor, and just was all over the glass on both ends.  But he also showed his ability to seal off defenders in the post, make himself long and available for his guards, and with a smooth release on his shot.  The big man just played with so much energy, which is why it is not surprising schools are showing strong interest his way.

2022 6’4 Jefferson Monegro: Monegro was another standout that we saw play, as the 6’4 guard showcased his ability to be an impact on both ends. Really liked his toughness, especially on the defensive end; scrappy defender on the floor.  Offensively, Monegro was effective in both scoring but also looking to find his teammates. He plays within the offense, can push in transition and with his head up, confident ballhandler, makes good entry passes, and can also create and get downhill.  There are still areas of improvement but Monegro is one that could help a team down the road.

2022 6’8 Majambu Mbikay: Mbikay was a new name that captured our eyes, as the 6’8 versatile prospect really stood out and is one to watch.  He made several big-time plays on Day 1, whether it was using his length and versatility to finish in the lane offensively, contesting shots on defense, running the floor on both ends, or showing off his athleticism in finishing at the rim in transition or in the halfcourt.

2022 6’9 Rory Stewart: Stewart was another that I found intriguing, as the 6’9, strong-bodied, stretch forward really can be a threat from outside and is just an active prospect that doesn’t need the spotlight to be effective. His offensive ability to step out and get his shot, showing a fluid three-point shot with a ton of confidence certainly brings intrigue but Stewart also looks to make plays inside and be active on the boards.  Again, he doesn’t need to be the spotlight in the offense but is more than willing to knock down shots when the opportunities are there.

These are just a few that we were able to see on Day 1, but there are several other prospects coming through the program that will be names to watch for. One thing is for sure… Orangeville Prep continues to produce talent for the next level.
