There is only one way to go after finishing a season 1-17 and that is up.  At times though, that is easier said than done.  But Coach David Carrier has Charlotte Country Day heading in the right path quickly and has been an early surprise here in North Carolina with how his team is playing.

Coach Carrier has done a terrific job in what he has been able to instill in his players and he is doing it the right way.  Watching him recently at the Phenom November Classic, he has these players playing at a high level and believing in themselves. The support he gives his players, teaching him not only the right ways to play and be on and off the court; one can see that he truly loves and cares about each player on his team.

Again, the Buccaneers are coming off a 2020-21 season in which they finished 1-17 and 0-8 in their conference but with a few new additions and development in players, Charlotte Country Day has started off the season 4-2 and with some strong showings.  That even includes a double-digit comeback at the November Classic against United Faith.

When talking to Coach Carrier about the changes that have been made with the program, here is what he had to say:

“Our culture started to change last year.  Going 1-17 in the pandemic year was incredibly tough, especially with a new coaching staff and no summer competition.  Our guys showed up every day and competed and were unselfish.  This summer, we practiced and played just like it was the regular season.  It meant everything.  Our team holds each other to a high standard.  We fight together.  We have a tough schedule and we have up and downs but I know these guys will empty the tank every day. Our coaching staff from Middle School, to JV, to Varsity all have the same vision and the players are 100% creating a culture of toughness and accountability. I love these guys.” – Coach Carrier

Players like junior Dallas Gardner, sophomore Amare Bethel, and others have all bought into what has been said and taught by Coach Carrier. Now, the Buccaneers look to be a program to really keep an eye on this season and down the road as they look to continue their success on the court.

Rick Lewis Comments:

“He has quickly changed the culture in a short period of time. First of all, Coach Carrier is enthusiastic and passionate which is transferring to the play on the court. With the addition of Dallas Gardner, he is developing the mentality that they can not only compete but win close games against opponents they would traditionally not be.”
