2022 Amiya Joyner staying close to come, commits to East Carolina

One of the top players in the state of North Carolina, Amiya Joyner, announced earlier this week that she would be staying close to home and committing to East Carolina.  A huge get for the Pirates, there were several factors that ultimately went into her decision, as she broke down her thoughts with Phenom Hoops.

Phenom: What made ECU the place for you in the end'
Joyner: My relationship with Coach Kim, she has been on me since she first took the job at ECU and she made me a priority early in the process.  Then, when I took my official visit and unofficials, it was a family-like atmosphere and I know they really care about me and I feel like they will help take care of me on and off the court.

Phenom: What other factors went into your decision' How much of a factor was it staying close to home'
Joyner: I thought that staying home would be great for me.  Representing my hometown and being a role model, having family and friends come to most of my games and support me and my new teammates.  Maybe I could start a trend, wanting people from this way to stay home.

Phenom: What does the staff think you can bring with your game and how you can impact the court'
Joyner: They feel like I can make an impact with my versatility, shot-blocking, rebounding, passing, and being able to shoot, stretch, and space the floor, and the ability to go by people with my ball-handling.

Alabama continues to add to 2022 class, add JUCO forward Nick Pringle

If you haven’t heard the name Nick Pringle, you should get to know him pretty quickly. A phenom alum and player that was down in South Carolina who ultimately committed to Wofford. Now, he is at Dodge City CC and is regarded as one of the top JUCO prospects.

Phenom Hoops recently watched his game, as Patrick O’Brien had this to say: “Once getting into the flow of the game, it was easy to see why so many schools are coming after Pringle. There is just so much to like with his explosiveness, athleticism, his mobility, and his skill set, with all this coming as a 6’9 prospect. He finished strong at the rim, blocked shots, and was on the glass as well. Though the stats might not blow you away, if you watch his skillset, it is easy to see why college coaches are looking hard his way and his potential.”

And we recently wrote this about Pringle: Here Comes the Blow Up: 2022 Nick Pringle (Dodge City CC)

Well, he announced on Wednesday his Top 5 which included Georgia, West Virginia, Wichita State, Ole Miss, and Alabama. And on Thursday, Pringle announced that he would be committing to Alabama, joining a loaded class already that also included another Phenom Hoops alum, Noah Clowney. The Crimson Tide looks to have a Top-10 class coming in for 2022.

One of the top players in the country, 2023 Robert Dillingham, announced on Wednesday his Top 5 schools. Dillingham, who was once at Combine Academy before transferring to Donda Academy this season, is ranked by several outlets as a Top-15 or higher talent.

2024 Sir Mohammed earns first offer; other schools showing interest

Phenom Hoops went out and about over the last few months to check out the talent around the state and one school we stopped at was Myers Park. A lot of good talent is on the floor for the Mustangs, but we were extremely impressed with 2024 6’5 Sir Mohammed, who could be in for a breakout season. We had this to say after viewing him in action:

“Mohammed could be one of the prime breakout candidates in the city of Charlotte.  If you don’t know his name, you will soon enough.  Mohammed is a 6’5 strong and athletic prospect that makes an impact in an array of ways.  Offensively, he can play multiple positions, play on and off the ball, create for himself, and either use his strong frame to bully defenders or use his athleticism to finish.  He also gets after it defensively as well.  When watching him this summer and now in the open gym, Mohammed looks poised and is a vocal leader for this team.  He is looking to make his name even bigger this upcoming season as well.”

Well, it seems that one school didn’t want to wait, as Mohammed earned his first offer from High Point University on Wednesday. And in speaking with Coach Nick Jones from Myers Park, schools like Louisville, Tennessee, Charlotte, Virginia Tech, and Virginia have also expressed some level of interest in Mohammed as well.
