We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Beckham Tharpe of North Iredell.

We’ve seen Tharpe in every possible setting, recently featuring him on our “Coaches Buzzing About the Carolina Riptide,” stating, Given his size and overall physicality, Beckham Tharpe brings a very different dynamic to this roster. He’s big, athletic, and plays hard at all times, which is truly a perfect fit given their personnel. Tharpe offers a low-maintenance identity as a rim-runner with defense, rebounding, and interior toughness on both ends of the floor. He plays with positive energy on the court and very seldom looks to operate outside of his comfort zone. Tharpe should only continue to improve going forward.” We later said the following during his time with Dive On It, Given the short-handed roster, Tharpe’s contributions have been especially evident on both sides of the ball. He’s a long, physical, high-motor post prospect with the ability to alter shots, control the glass, and run the floor properly in transition. Tharpe utilizes his nonstop energy to secure extra possessions and finish around the basket.”

Although there is plenty of upside remaining, there is already a lot to like with what Tharpe brings to the table. He’s a big, strong, mobile post prospect with toughness, athleticism, and a low-maintenance identity on either end of the floor. Tharpe shows a consistent willingness to do the dirty work or whatever is needed to provide his team with an edge. He plays with a seemingly nonstop motor, which allows him to regularly outwork opposing big men for extra opportunities. Tharpe alters shots very well, secures rebounds on either side of the ball, and runs the floor hard in transition. While he’s quite productive, he has the ability to make a lasting impact without ever necessarily needing to score. In terms of overall progression, Tharpe has arguably improved as much as anyone within the Riptide organization. He should have a very productive upcoming season for North Iredell.
