Phenom Hoops was on deck at Forsyth Country Day for the NCISAA Session 2 LIVE Period and it was great to see so many players in action playing in front of college coaches. Day 1 kicked off in what looked to be a terrific event, as these were just a few names that really captured my eyes on Friday night.
Top Performer: 2023 Comeh Emuobor (Ravenscroft)
Emuobor is a special talent and he showed why on Day 1 at Forsyth Country Day. To put it simply, he did what he wanted, when he wanted… It can easily be seen why so many schools are coming his way as the 6’5 rising junior can operate on so many levels. Whether it was going up against a smaller defender and rising over defenders to knock down shots or taking a big off the dribble and finishing strong, Emuobor was clicking in all areas of his game. At times, he was simply playing bully ball on the floor and making it look easy.
Other Standouts:
2023 Kaleb Siler (Carmel Christian)
It is only the start of this young man’s story; from watching him in a back gym to where he is now, you can see that he has taken the early steps in really being a big-time big in the class of 2023. He continues to work on his body and his conditioning, while also raising his feel down low in the paint. Siler’s soft touch and feel down in the paint is impressive and he is just scratching the surface of what he could be as the final product.
2023 Jakwon Moore (Trinity Academy of Raleigh)
Moore certainly passes the eye test. With his body, his strength, his impact on both sides, and his continuing development in his overall offensive feel, Moore is certainly going to be one of the top targets for many schools in the class of 2023. On Day 1, he really made an impact on both sides of the floor, using his athleticism to his advantage, blocking shots, and finishing strong at the rim. If Moore continues his trajectory with his game, he is going to be something special and a big name nationally.
2023 Wesley Tubbs (Northside Christian)
With a few key losses from last season for Northside, it seems that it is time for Tubbs to be the go-to leader for his team. He displayed that on Day 1, getting out in transition, finishing well at the rim, and bringing that leadership mentality to the floor. We always know he is going to leave it all out on the floor for his team but it seems now that he is the No. 1 option for Northside and he is ready to embrace that role.
2023 Emanuel Richards (Christ School)
Coming from South Carolina, Richards is going to make his mark quickly in North Carolina now playing at Christ School. When you talk about Richards’ game, a few key factors stand out immediately with his game. His bully-like mentality with his strong frame, getting into the paint, and finishing through contact… all are what attract your eyes quickly but then you add his developing outside shot, something he has continued to improve on, Richards is starting to show the full package and college coaches are quickly going to be coming his way.
2022 Amare Miller (The Burlington School)
After missing time due to injury, Miller made some noise in the final game of Day 1. Though he wasn’t the leading scorer, there was something about his play that attracted your eyes. He came out strong early, finishing well around the basket, moving well, and playing with a physical nature, but it was also his activity level on the boards. After missing time on the court, it was great to see him back in action and he impressed.
