Jordan Watlington 6’2 160 2024 Menchville HS (VA) / BWSL Strothers

Jordan is one of those prospects that don’t come along every day as he encompasses the mental, physical and fundamental assets that point to successes on and off the court in his future. A high character, humble and driven young man Jordan’s work ethic is hard to match and is respected by coaches and teammates alike. The product on the floor is all the evidence you need as he impacts games in a variety of ways and produces in every positive statistical category. Physically he plays longer than his lean and powerful 6’2 frame both exploding to the rim for finishes and for rebounds and also on his strong and decisive drives to the rim. He is a threat off the ball from all levels. A knockdown shooter with great range his footwork and shot preparation are sound.

Jordan moves off the ball with purpose and doesn’t need much time or space to get his shot off as a result of his ability to separate and his quick release. He uses fakes and hard jabs to attack closeouts and is silky smooth and efficient relocating with the dribble or attacking and pulling up off the dribble. His handle is solid and features crossovers, between the legs dribbles and step backs and he dribbles with purpose. He does a great job creating separation for his shot with the stepback and he demonstrates great balance and body control attacking space. Jordan matches good quickness with strength as he slips by defenders or fights through contact to score. He can explode off a dribble move and attack a seam with impressive quickness as he stretches his frame out with rangy strides and explosive leaping ability. Jordan will punish challenges at the rim with thunderous one-hand slams or show his creativity and touch when finishing off the glass. He really appears much longer than 6’2 when you watch how he stretches himself out and attacks fearlessly and decisively. One dribble attacks from beyond the arc to the rim and the ability to attack in either direction just as emphatically are part of his impressive arsenal.

On the defensive end, he provides the luxury of having the quickness to guard other guards but the strength, leaping ability, and toughness to guard bigger players in the paint. He is instinctive on both ends and prepared! Jordan is an elite athlete and is gifted physically but he’s a gritty competitor who refuses to be denied. He plays with so much composure and confidence, smooth. Jordan comes from a family of impact high school basketball players. His older brother Michael is a 6’6 wing who just completed his senior season at Menchville High School and will play his college basketball at Eastern Mennonite University. Jordan has a twin brother Bryce who is a fearless and physical basket attacking guard who is so similar in every way it’s uncanny. Under the tutelage of former NBAer and long-time pro Lamont Strothers it’s easy to call this one. Jordan and his twin brother Bryce Watlington will be two of the better basketball talents in the 2024 class in Virginia!
