At the beginning of each new year, Phenom Hoops works to assemble a series of articles centered around unsigned senior prospects. Last season, over one hundred players from North Carolina went on to play at the Division I, II, III or NAIA levels, and that number looks likely to continue increasing with the current senior class. Typically, we take a closer look at guys who are overlooked and underrated, and today’s edition will highlight Caden Davis of RJ Reynolds.
We’ve seen Davis numerous times throughout his progression, including at our Phenom 150 Camp, where we stated, “Next, we look at a player that emphasizes toughness and rugged physicality on both ends of the floor, Caden Davis. He’s a strong, fairly athletic wing prospect that can do a little bit of everything on offense while shutting down his assignment defensively. Davis scores the ball efficiently and does a terrific job of setting up his teammates for easy scores. He forced an abundance of turnovers and pushed transition play at a strong rate. Next in his development process is working to become a craftier ball-handler, as it would allow him to create for himself and others with relative ease. Coach Jones on Davis: “Caden is an excellent scorer. He shot the three-pointer with consistency. He attacks the rim with the necessary strength to finish through contact. At his size, Caden can see over the top of defenders from the point and delivers crisp passes to his cutting teammates. Caden is great with help-defense but can continue to work on his off-hand.” Davis is a true competitor that already looks equipped to succeed at the college level, so it’ll be exciting to see how he progresses over the next few years.”
The multi-sport athlete has only continued to solidify himself as a college basketball talent within the last calendar year. Davis is a big, strong, mobile, physical wing prospect with the necessary versatility to operate from various different roles and positions on the court. He can initiate offense and run a team or find scoring opportunities as an off-ball threat. Davis utilizes his body extremely well to absorb contact as a finisher and rebounder around the basket. He makes consistently smart decisions with the ball in his hands and displays a quality feel for the game on both ends of the floor. Davis brings a lot to a team and should have a variety of options to further his career at the next level, whether for football or basketball.
