Providence Day and Westminster Catawba brought us another intriguing matchup and it certainly didn’t disappoint. It was going to be interesting to see who would be able to gain control in this one; Providence Day came out really strong early on with Bryce Scott and Jaquava Propst-Allison making plays. Those two helped Providence earn the early edge and held it for much of the first quarter and into the second. But Westminster started to find more of their offensive game, knock down shots, and bring more energy on the defensive end. It is what helped them grab their first lead late and into halftime. Second half, Westminster Catawba continued to increase their lead slowly but surely, showing a very good balanced attack with multiple guys getting involved. They also clamped down more on defense, only giving up 16 second-half points. In the end, Westminster Catawba secured the 69-48 win.

Standouts:

2023 Khamani Wertz (Providence Day): Wertz has that good looking shot that runs in the family.  He operated well with the ball in his hands but also got into his spots and knocked down shots with a pure shooting shot. Hit four three-pointers and just continued to grow with his confidence on the floor.

2022 Jaquava Propst-Allison (Providence Day): Such a quick guard with terrific handles, it is hard for any defender to create a turnover on him.  But he does a really good job in creating off the dribble, using his change of direction and speed to get defenders on his hip and get downhill at the rim. And if you back off, he can make you pay with his jumper.

2022 MJ Collins (Westminster Catawba): Collins is an underrated prospect but continues to produce. His length and athleticism make it tough for teams on both ends of the floor.  Offensively though, he brings a fundamentally sound shot with arc and range while also bring an athletic wing type that can finish tough at the rim.  Defensively, makes it tough for defenders with his wingspan.

2021 AJ Hamrick (Westminster Catawba): Hamrick’s development in his game has been impressive.  He continues to show his offensive ability, stretching out on the floor, scoring with the midrange and from three.  Add that with a really good vertical, his ability to disrupt on the defensive end, and running of the floor, Hamrick is going to be one to watch at the next level.
