Phenom Hoops tuned in to some of the action at the Pango’s All-West Frosh/Soph camp recently, bringing the next round of talent in the coming years. We were able to see a few players that impressed or caught out eyes, as we spotlight new names to start keeping tabs on.
6’5 Derek Sangster is a prospect that has good size and versatility to his game already; and when speaking to him about it, he would describe his game more like a Brandon Ingram type of style. A player that plays with a smooth feel, can run in transition, hustles on the floor, and shows the ability to score around the basket or with range, along as use his length/size to his advantage.
“For how I like to attack defenders, it depends on whose guarding me but generally I usually get to the basket using my quick first step,” he told Phenom Hoops. “I also work best on the perimeter definitely.”
As far as where he would like to improve, Sangster said that he is definitely continuing to work on his overall basketball IQ and ball-handling, as well as continue to work on his shooting.
