2022 Daniel Sanford has been a name many already know about, especially around the western part of the state of North Carolina. Phenom Hoops has been tracking his game for quite some time now, from his time with Team United, to his play at Vance this past season, to now playing with Team Charlotte 16u.
Sanford has always been a forward that brings versatility to the floor, with his big hands, wingspan, and body frame. He brings a tremendous presence on both ends of the floor, scoring down low, running from end to end, attacking the glass, and showing off his ability to be a shot-blocker.
He saw a rise from his freshman season to his sophomore year at Vance, nearly doubling his output and he seems to be continuing his stellar play this summer, something we all got a chance to see in Rock Hill the last few weeks at the Queen City Showcase and Phenom Challenge.
Patrick O’Brien had this to say recently about Sanford and his play:
“2022 6’8 Daniel Sanford is playing with such a physical presence on the floor, looking to tear down the rim and being a force in the paint. He continues to improve each time I watch him.”
Colby Lewis added this about Sanford:
“2022 Daniel Sanford has big-time upside. 7’2 wingspan, young for his age. Super physical and high-level motor. Rebounds everything. Has the ability to switch and guard on the perimeter.”
You can see why schools like Western Carolina, Charlotte, Winthrop, and Tennessee all offered early on. Stanford continues to make an even bigger presence on the court. He continued to show his physical presence at the rim while also contesting shots at the rim. And as Colby mentioned, you can use him in a variety of ways.
If he continues to showcase his ability to be an effective presence and a physical tool inside the arc on both ends, more offers should be coming his way.
