6’2 2022 Julien King (Broughton HS) “Books, Basketball and Leadership”

Julien King has been a leader for Broughton High School the past two seasons and has led the team in scoring, while being one of the top rebounders and assist leaders. During his freshman JV season at Broughton, he was the leading scorer and recognized as the Most Outstanding Player of the Year. During his sophomore season on varsity, he was the leading scorer and recognized as the Most Outstanding Player of the Year, Cap-7 Conference Honorable Mention.

In addition to having success on the basketball court, King was recognized as a NCHSAA Academic awardee and named to the CAP-7 Academic All-Conference team. With all his basketball accomplishments he has successfully and consistently demonstrated high academics.

Last August, King attended our ENC Phenom 150 Camp. We stated the following, “King is an unselfish player that can reliably create for himself or others while locking down his assignment on the other end. Next in his development process is working on the use of his off-hand, as it would make him a more complete offensive threat. Coach Simmons on King: “Three-ball, midrange, or to the rack! The question is, “how do you want it?” Julian has all the tools in his bag. He crashes the glass very well and is always a threat to rebound and put back the miss. He gets to the rack at will and is unstoppable when going downhill.”

Coach Rick’s Observation: King was terrific last year at the John Wall Holiday Invitational. He has excellent body control and has really developed a nifty step back jumper. King has good handles, excellent vision, and utilizes the head and pump fake quite effectively. We’ve been impressed with his superb shooting mechanics, great extension, and follow through, not to mention a high release. In addition, King rebounds extremely well for his size and position.
