Trey Wertz to Notre Dame

Trey Wertz has informed Phenom Hoops he has verbally committed to coach Mike Brey and Notre Dame. The allure of academics and basketball along with the relationship he built with the coaching staff was the deciding factors. Many felt Wertz would select UNC, his dream school growing up, but in the end, “Trey made the best decision for himself,” according to his father Langston Wertz.

The high academic guard valued the blend of basketball and academics that Notre Dame had to offer. He connected with the coaching staff and felt Notre Dame’s ability to utilize his strengths as both a scorer and a facilitator were a custom fit for his final two years of college eligibility. Wertz will sit out one year and have two years remaining. Academics have always played a huge role with Wertz and his final decision. Wertz maintained a 3.1 GPA in business finance and was scheduled to graduate in May, 2021. Now, he can use this time to secure an MBA degree.

Wertz will bring a proven resume to South Bend both on the court and in the classroom. He averaged 12.5 PPG for his two years at Santa Clara and has a lengthy frame that will make him an attractive prospect when his college days are over. In the meantime, Notre Dame is getting an outstanding basketball player, but even better student and young man.
