During this time around the country, it certainly has been tough for players and their recruitment due to not being able to show their talent on the court. It has been especially tough for several unsigned seniors but one senior used a strong season to earn the respect of fans and college coaches around.
2020 6’2 Samage Teel from Farmville high school played a critical piece all year long for the Jaguars on their way to a long run in the playoffs. All the hard work that he has put in over the years and in his senior campaign, it is now paying off with multiple offers late.
Teel wanted to prove himself all year long and did so, showing that he can play at the next level.
“I wanted to show coaches that I’m a D1 guard,” he told Phenom Hoops. “I wanted to show them that they could be on me and I would get the job done. I can provide leadership, scoring, hard work, defense, and anything else a coach needs me to do; I will try my best to do it. I would say my strengths as a player is to get downhill, getting my teammates open, handling the ball, and shooting.”
He certainly showed just that, now securing offers from UNC-Pembroke, Presbyterian, UNC-Wilmington, and his latest one, James Madison. Teel says that it is truly a blessing and he couldn’t have found success without the people around him but he is excited about what the future holds. Right now, the programs that have offered think Teel could be a big piece of changing the culture at their school.
“(They think I can) come in and change their programs around and also help them win some games or even lead them to a championship,” Teel said.
Teel has also been garnering interest from schools like Radford, East Carolina, Appalachian State, USCA, and UNC-Asheville.
