It seems like a growing recruiting battle is developing for 2022 6’4 TJ Caldwell, as the sophomore guard has attracted the attention of several high-major programs around the area.

Caldwell really continued to make an impression on college coaches this season at Faith Family Academy (TX). After receiving his first offer back in July, college coaches continued to express interest his way as he focused on developing key parts of his game.

“Overall, I feel like this season went great,” he told Phenom Hoops. “I got my name out there a little more and more college coaches started to get in touch with me… Some of my focuses were to just be aggressive at all times and to be a good teammate and coachable.”

As mentioned above, Caldwell received his first offer back in July from Oklahoma State and has now added another Big-12 offer from Oklahoma, a program that ranks high up on his list.

Oklahoma State: “I think Oklahoma State is a great program.  Many players that I know are there currently and my relationship is strong with Coach Cunningham and his brother Cade because of us having the same trainer and working out together.”

Oklahoma: “Oklahoma has always been a top school I’ve wanted to hold an offer from but I’ve yet to build a strong relationship with the coach. I was surprised by the offer… I am looking forward to building a good relationship with assistant coach (Carlin) Hartman and the coaching staff at Oklahoma.”

Caldwell continued to discuss why he is high on the Sooners overall, as he had a chance to check them out, firsthand, just weeks ago.

“Outside of all the blue bloods, I feel like it is one of the best programs in college basketball,” he said.

“I watched them play a couple of weeks ago and I liked their style of play and Coach Hartman was telling me how they let their guards play and get after it.”

Oklahoma hasn’t been the only place Caldwell has visited, as he also took a visit to Kansas a while back. It was a tremendous experience for him, saying “the fans and energy were on another level.”

With two offers on the board, other schools have been expressing interest as well. He mentioned Kansas has been looking at him for a while now but SMU, UTSA, Syracuse, Minnesota and Virginia Tech are others that have been coming around and keeping an eye on him.

“They have just been letting me know that they are watching and they will be in touch and be looking forward to seeing me in the future.”

Right now, Caldwell has no visits planned with the current situation going around the country but he did mention that Minnesota could be a visit down the road.
