It’s not like 6’5” senior shooting guard Quentin Hodge is an unknown entity. According to Verbal Commits, he has 12 offers that have been verified at the D1 level, from the likes of Murray State, College of Charleston and others. He plays in talent-rich Sumter, South Carolina, a city that has put out players like Ja Morant, CJ Felder (Boston College), Juwan Purdue (Jacksonville St) and Isaih Moore (St John’s) over the past three years.
To this point in the season, for Lakewood High School, Hodge is averaging 27.7 points per game. In Saturday’s Hartsville Invitational, Hodge finished with 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in the win. He showcased the everything we knew he had, he initiated the offense, he finished at the rim and he showcased an effortless, repeatable jump shot.
One word comes to mind when watching Hodge, and that is smooth. He gives effort on every play, he has all the skills, tools and size. He is a very good defender and tough-nosed rebounder. It is one of those things where you look, and look, and look and just cannot find the glaring hole for why the offers are not pouring in. He is coached by former Clemson point guard Ed Scott, and Ed has him making (and creating) all the right reads on the floor.
However, in the state of South Carolina, we end up seeing this every year. Players who go unidentified until very late in the process far outplay their recruiting list in college. Quentin Hodge just so happens to be another one of those types of players, one that a school will pick up late and he will come in and thrive for them, have a heck of a career at that school, and who knows where that will take him.
