Phenom Hoops hit the road once again Friday night, heading down to the Fayetteville area to check in on undefeated Westover as they welcomed in 10-3 Overhills.  The crowd was certainly into the matchup for both sides and neither side looked to back down in a pivotal game.  Westover looked to use their pressure defense to create their offense, getting out in transition, pushing the tempo in transition, and attacking the rim in the half-court set.  That pressure defense helped them get out to an early double-digit lead but Overhills answered back with a few key 3-pointers.

Again, Westover looked to run and play their type of game, building their lead back to double-digits but each time, Overhills created a few key turnovers and knocked down the three-ball to keep this around a 10-point game.

Halftime: Westover 35 – Overhills 24

In the second half, credit has to go to the guards of Overhills.  They were able to handle the zone press extremely well, attacking the holes and dishing out to open shooters or getting to the rim.  It helped them go on an early 10-2 run and get right back into the game (cutting it down to four). Overhills never could get over the hump to take the lead but they also never went away.  Each team had an answer… Westover made a late run to push their lead back to 10 points late in the third but Overhills answered back.  It was a grind-it-out type of game in the second half but Westover secured the win and remained undefeated.

Final: Westover 66 – Overhills 62

Stats:
Westover
D’Marco Dunn: 18 points/ Darius Jewell 13 points/ Traymond Willis-Shaw: 17 points
Overhills
Jordan Davis: 21 points/ Zach Lowery: 14 points/ Damien Robinson: 8 points

Standouts:

2021 6’4 D’Marco Dunn (Westover): Dunn has all the tools that coaches want. Great size at 6’4, high release, great feel with the ball, plays as a secondary ballhandler and does all the little things. Saw the floor well and rebounded strong. Effectful day even with his outside game not quite falling.

2020 6’7 Traymond Willis-Shaw (Westover): How can you not like a prospect with great length, versatility, and can be effective on both sides of the floor. Willis-Shaw showed his range, ability to run the floor, and rebound incredibly well. Stepped up big in the second half when his team needed him. Finished strong around the rim.

2021 5’9 Darius Jewell (Westover): Shooters are going to shoot and Jewell will let it fly. Carving out his role for this team, if let him have a little space, Jewell can knock it down. Also loved his energy and aggressiveness on the defensive end, getting out in passing lanes, using his speed to create havoc.

2022 6’4 Damien Robinson (Overhills): Robinson is a defensive end for football but he had great mobility and energy on the court Friday night.  Being the only true big for this team, he had to handle the length of Westover and did a solid job doing so.  Rebounded strong, carved out space and finished through contact.  Only a sophomore, keep an eye on him both on the court and the field.

2020 5’10 Jordan Davis (Overhills): Davis took advantage of the opportunities, showing his range on multiple occasions and really keeping Overhills in the game.  Knocking down consistently from three, Davis knocked in multiple three’s but also attacked when the opportunity presented itself.

2020 5’8 Zach Lowery (Overhills): The other senior guard for Overhills, Lowery really played well in seeing the floor, getting into the lanes and finding his teammates for open shots. He had a great feel, saw the floor well, and made the right decisions en route to helping his team stay in the game. Played with poise and with a great IQ.
