Greenfield Rebounds to Capture 7th Place in the David West Bracket

Starting things off for Championship Monday at the 48th Annual John Wall Holiday Invitational was the 7th place game of the David West Bracket between Greenfield and Broughton. Greenfield came into the contest with an uncharacteristic two game losing streak and are currently 14-5 for the season. On the other hand, Broughton’s young team is making strives, although coming up a tad short on the final score. They come into the game with a 1-9 record which is not indicative of how hard they have been playing.

First Half

Playing with a sense of urgency and something to prove, Greenfield jumped out to a 14-6 first quarter lead and pushed it to 27-18 heading into the halftime break. The storyline for the first half was the inability of Broughton to take care of the basketball. While Greenfield did have eight steals, Broughton committed 12 turnovers, not to mention both teams struggled to shoot the ball with high efficiency. Leading the way was 6’7 senior Trey Pittman with eight points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

Second Half

Greenfield went on a 10-0 scoring run at the beginning of the second half to open up a 37-18 lead. From there, Greenfield never looked back as they captured a convincing 62-44 win over Broughton. For Broughton, they could never find any type of offensive consistency or rhythm and again turnovers continued to plaque the young and mostly inexperienced Broughton team.

Summary

Greenfield moves to 15-5 for the season and captured 7th place for the David West Bracket at the John Wall Holiday Invitational. For Greenfield, it was another well-balanced attacked as three players got into double digit scoring. Leading the way was Wake Forest signee Dji Bailey with 16 while Jordan Lynch and Trey Pittman scored 11 and 10 points respectively. In addition, Creighton Lebo chipped in nine points while Collin Guilford added eight points. For Broughton, 63 junior Hampton McQueen had a stellar game with 17 points and eight rebounds.
