There’s no real debate about the current best team in high school basketball, as the census seems to be set on Montverde. Durham Academy is arguably one of the top two or three teams in North Carolina, but they had an obvious uphill battle with MJ Rice sidelined. It was supposed to be a blowout in the eyes of many but Durham Academy came out with a clear game plan and hung around for the entirety of the first quarter. Thanks to the play of Nik Graves, Cole Sinclair, and Toby Harris, they entered halftime only trailing 46-22 to Montverde.

As many predicted, Montverde eventually just became too much for the opposition to contain. Their roster is simply littered from top to bottom with high-major prospects, making it pretty much impossible for any true high school team to overwhelm them. It was a group effort but Cade Cunningham, Moses Moody, Scott Barnes, and Day’Ron Sharpe were the best and most consistent four players on the court. The second half allowed Montverde to extend their lead, ultimately securing an 85-43 victory over Durham Academy.

Harris was easily the most productive Cavalier from this outing, scoring 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting while pulling down four rebounds. Meanwhile, Cunningham had 10 points and 11 assists with zero turnovers. Caleb Houston led Montverde in scoring with 16 points while Sharpe, Barnes, and Moody finished with 14 points, 14 points, and 10 points, respectively.
