With no shortness of confidence or skill 6’4” Josh Hopkins has taken the next step. He carries a great frame, good athleticism, and a quick release with deep range. He is a Division 1 player.
Hopkins made quite a name for himself over the summer. Last year, as a sophomore, he played in only 18 games as a bit player for a 10-12 Dudley team. That season he averaged 5 points. Over the summer, he grew a couple of inches, he gained a little weight, and his confidence blew through the roof.
After stealing the show at the David Rose Memorial Day Classic Phenom Hoops’ National Analyst Jamie Shaw wrote,“Hopkins came out the gates swinging on Friday night as he scored 24 points, on 6 made 3s, in the opening round upset of Upward Stars SE. Hopkins has great size, and can shoot the ball with deep range and confidence. Hopkins has a solid handle in the half court, and enough length and athleticism to be a good defender. Expect to hear a lot more from Hopkins coming up, he has shown that this is no fluke and D1s need to take him consistently.”
Without question, shooters translate at every level. Especially shooters that have size and confidence. Hopkins has both of these without a doubt. He is able to shoot off the catch, as he finds himself squared and in the pocket. He also has the ability to get to the rim in the half court or pull up in the mid-range.
Dudley’s Head Coach Brian Seagraves agreed with our sentiment, “Josh is the next in line at Dudley. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great players come through the program. Watch out for this one.”
We are not sure at what level he lands, but there is no question multiple levels of Division 1 schools should be in the gym, figuring this out.
