Williams is a player you may not know…yet. He is a player that Division 1 coaches should get to know well. He is a lengthy, athletic, and high upside wing.
Williams has been coming to our Phenom events for a few years now. He has been on the radar for longer, due to the prep success which his older brother, TJ Williams, had. TJ is now a Junior at University of North Georgia.
Our first viewing of Williams came while at New Hanover High School, in Wilmington. After attending our Fall 2013 NC Phenom 150 camp Phenom Hoops Analyst Rick Lewis wrote, “Lawrence is a fundamentally sound player that has an outstanding basketball IQ. He knows the game and has a really good skill set for his age/grade. Lawrence is very smooth and does so many things well.”
He has really grown into his game, not only with his size but also with his toughness and work ethic. In 2013 Williams was a slender 6’3” wing. Now he stands a filled out 6’6” wing. He is athletic and he plays with a motor, which leads to consistent production on both ends of the floor.
After watching Williams at this Summer’s Grassroots Tip of Classic Phenom Hoops Analyst Jamie Shaw wrote, “While he has great pedigree there is no denying that this Williams is his own player. In the long run, Williams is a wing. He has great length and explosion toward the rim. Williams experienced a break out at the Phenom Jamboree in November (2014) where he picked up a good amount of college interest. He played very well during the April Live Period and had a good number of eyes on him at the Grassroots Tip Off Classic.”
Williams is coming into his own as a player. He is not there yet, as there is still some ceiling to grow. However, Williams is very productive across the board. He finishes loudly on offense and he plays with vigor and purpose on defense.
Expect the offers to start rolling in, possibly, as soon as this weekend.
