Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day. It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.
Here is the latest commitment
Player: Nicholas Evtimov
Class: 2019
Committed to: Western Carolina
What the Player Said:
Q: What made Western Carolina the place for you in the end'
Evtimov: Well, the entire coaching staff was fantastic and did the best job of any other staff as far as making me feel as a priority and just the winning culture they are trying to build at Western Carolina really drew me in.
Q: How did you inform them about your decision and what did they have to say'
Evtimov: I called Coach Prosser after much conversation with my family and he was very excited to learn the news and he said we were going to do great things.
What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:
Evtimov is strong and very skilled. He has the ability to rebound his area very well and is an ultimate competitor. Evtimov comes from a basketball family, as you can tell by how he produces. He has range, he can score with his back to the basket and he can create from the high post. Evtimov’s camp coach stated, “Nicholas was the best player on my team all day. He shot well in the mid-range and from 3. He made everyone around him better, competed from the start to finish, every game.” – NC Top 80 in 2018
GDS always seems to have highly skilled and talented kids on campus like Evitimov. He has nice size, good hands/feet, feel for the game, and hoops IQ that allows him to play at a higher level than most his size. He can bang inside, knock down shots from the outside, and handle the ball well enough that you are not screaming for him to find a guard if he decides to push the tempo off the rebound. Spin move into the lane is a weapon for him. Typ9cal type of high floor type player you expect to come out of GDS system. – Jason Porter
What separates Nicholas at this early stage in his development is his advanced fundamentals. He has a high basketball IQ and is so crafty around the rim. Coach Kelvin Mills of Phenom Hoop Report stated, “Nicholas is unique because his game is so fundamentally sound. It is rare to watch a young player with his size make such an immediate impact.” Coach Ron Murphy of Team United stated, “Nicholas works hard all over the court. He has high-level footwork and uses his hips and shoulders to create space. He is also a really good passer from the low post.” – Phenom Hoops in 2015
