Phenom’s Southern Jam (July 28-30)

The Phenom Hoops platform brings in major names, the names that everyone in the country talks about. However, the major part of the platform is the spotlight our platform puts on players people don’t talk about yet. Phenom’s Southern Jam is the last travel ball event of the 2017 season. Phenom Hoops will have over 100 teams coming in from 9 different states (North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Alabama, Georgia, and Pennsylvania). Every one of these teams will be performing on the Phenom Hoops Platform.
Our track record speaks for itself, so when coaches hear us suggest for them to come watch a player they make the effort to do so. Here is part 3 of D1 prospects Coaches will want to see July 28-30.
6’4” 2018 Jaylin Reed
Spectrum (VA)
Reed is a sturdy prospect who plays the game with a great pace. Reed has great length and is able to shoot the ball well in the mid range. He is a strong wing defender and rebounds his position well. Early in his high school career he carried an offer from NJIT, but with his size and skill set he does everything well.
6’2” 2018 Ricky Clemons
WCBA White (NC)
With Clemons it is all about his feel for the game. Nothing is flashy, it is a no nonsense and efficient approach that led Clemons to average 20 points, 5 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals per game this high school season. He shot 50% from the field, averaged 10 free throws per game and averaged a 2:1 assists to turnover as his team’s primary ball handler. Clemons produces major stats within the framework of the offense. Needless to say, his skill set translates.
6’8” 2018 Jalin Thorne
Flight 22 Elite (NC)
Hands, straight line explosion, ability to put it on the floor and touch around the basket. There is a lack of big men around the country in this class, so D1s are taking a look and any one they can find. Jalin Thorne can flat out play though. He is a throwback type big who plays close to the basket, and shows touch over both shoulders. He is a strong 2-handed rebounder and has a sturdy frame. Thorne missed all of his junior year due to an injury and is just getting his legs back under him. He is under the radar and is one that D1 college coaches need to make it a point to see.
6’2” 2019 Dez Woods
NC Gaters – Frazier (NC) 16s
Woods is a straight up dog, just exudes toughness in every facet of the game. He is a top level on the ball defender using his strength, his explosion and his natural instincts to be a tough matchup. Offensively, he is and explosive guard, able to handle the ball in the half court as well as shoot the ball consistently beyond the arc. Woods’ game is very loud and when watching it is hard to not notice him. He wins games.
6’5” Post Grad Patrick Dorsey
WCBA Blue (NC)
Dorsey has long been known as a shooter, and yes he has deep range to go with a quick and confident release. However, he is so much more than a stand still shooter. Dorsey has become a flat out scorer. Last season, playing with North Carolina 4A powerhouse Millbrook High School, Dorsey led the team in scoring at 18 per game, while making 100 3-pointers, taking 87 free throws and shooting 55% from inside the 3-point arc. He also added 4.5 boards, 3 steals and 2.5 assists. His feel for the game is next level and his ability to defend the wing (especially in the passing lanes) is great. Dorsey carried a few D2 offers coming out of high school, but he will take a post grad year at Fork Union where his recruitment is sure to take a major jump.
