Lindell Wigginton is a 6-0 point guard from Oak Hill that has been gathering the national attention of several top tier programs and could be in line to yet another elite guard from Oak Hill Academy.
Oak Hill has always been known as a top high school program with elite level, so there is no surprise that Wigginton is following in several other recruits footsteps that have come before him.
Right now, he holds offers from Florida State, Boston College, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech, with the last three coming this past summer. Phenom Hoops spoke with the talented guard from Oak Hill to get the latest on his recruitment and his offseason, as his team hopes to claim a national title this season with a loaded team.
“It has been going pretty good, just been getting a lot of shot up and hitting the weight room, getting bigger and stronger,” Wigginton said when asked how his offseason has gone for him.
While hitting the gym and working on his game, his recruiting has really taken a leap with the recent schools offering him and interest picking up. However, still being a young man in the 2017 class, he knows his work is not done and he continues to stay focused on his main goal.
“It has been going good,” he said when asked about his recruitment. “Schools have offered and reached out to me over the summer and things but right now, I’m just focused on the upcoming season and getting ready for that.”
Wigginton reiterated the four schools that had offered him already but other schools such as Georgia Tech and Arizona State, along with a few others, have been coming his way and talking to his head coach from Oak Hill, Coach Steve Smith.
The process has been taking his course so far and the talked point guard will have his chance to check out these programs if he so desires but with the season coming up, he has high expectations (along with several others) about his team.
“I feel like it is going to be a great year,” he replied. “All 12 players on our team can play. Anyone can come in the game and play a big role. I feel like we have a chance at the national championship this year and for myself, I feel like it’s going to be a break out type of year for me.”
Phenom Hoops knows that this kid is talented and a special one to watch in the loaded state of Virginia, especially in the class of 2017. He currently ranks at No. 6 in the Phenom Hoops 2017 rankings but if this young prospect has a breakout year like he expects, he could move up to an even bigger national name.
