Phenom Hoop Report travelled to Lenoir, North Carolina to cover Moravian Prep high school and prep team’s open gym. This is the first time Moravian Prep has instituted a high school team and coach Jeremy Ellis and Antonio Lowe have a lot to be excited about. They have a nice blend of collegiate prospects and college coaches from D1, D2, and D3 coaches have all made the trek to Moravian Prep. Now, let’s take a closer look at the players that made the biggest impact at open gym.

The Vocal Leader

6’3 2019 Caleb Burgess

Sporting offers from Hampton and NC A&T, look for a big season for the senior point guard. We’re talking about a strong, physical and athletic lead guard that impressed us with his poise and maturity, but most of all his vocal leadership. Throughout practice, Burgess was the team’s leader. He was giving encouragement to teammates and was effectively running the team. Without question, Burgess has embraced the role of being the “coach on the floor.” Burgess displayed excellent court vision always looking to make the pitch ahead pass. He created scoring opportunities for his teammates and was the team’s most efficient scorer. Burgess scored from all three levels. He was knocking down perimeter shots, hitting the midrange and finishing at the rim.

6’9 2019 Josh Hall

Sporting offers from Marshall, Cal State-Fullerton, Weber State, High Point University and Morehead State, Josh Hall is the most intriguing prospect on the team. We’re talking about a lengthy, mobile and fluid wing forward that has good ball handling and passing skills for his size and position. Since he has enrolled at Moravian Prep, he has gained 10 lbs. according to coach Jeremy Ellis. His mobility and perimeter skills are his calling card. He has a soft shooting touch and excellent range.

6’11 2020 Javarzia Belton

Coach Ellis stated Belton has offers from College of Charleston and UNLV. We’re talking about a strong and physical center who knows his role. He doesn’t venture far from the paint and is an excellent two-handed rebounder. He is still somewhat raw offensively, but Belton demonstrated a strong work ethic and an enthusiastic attitude. He’s a willing listener and also demonstrated on court leadership.

6’9 2020 Omarion Jay

Omarion Jay is wide body power forward. He has excellent strength, passer friendly hands and good footwork in the post. Like Belton, he is still somewhat raw in the post and prefers simply to dunk everything in site.

6’8 (Post Grad) Tyzhaun Claude

We have watched the growth and development of Tyzhaun Claude over his high school career. He has faced his fair of adversity, but look for him to become a hot prospect for the Moravian Prep Post Grad team. He has excellent perimeter skills and has the ability to step out and knock down perimeter shots with consistency. He has a solid skillset and plays with purpose.
