Our first time watching Aymeric Toussiant was his freshman year at the inaugural Phenom’s Feast of Champions event in 2016. He walked on the court and you could see the upside, but he was young, almost like a deer in headlights. However, during that game you could see glimpses.
Although he was the third of fourth guy off the bench for that Victory Christian team, the (then) 6’7” forward made a three and he had a huge dunk in transition. It was easy to see the ability, it was only a matter of when the light would come on and things would come together.
Entering 2017 Toussiant transferred to Freedom Christian in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Also transferring into Freedom to start the year was 6’9” senior Serbian Milos Stajcic. At this time Toussiant has grown to be 6’9”, and Stajcic (a Campbell signee) picked up five or so Division 1 offers on the year. He picked up natural progression from year one to year two, the size, the athleticism, the coordination. Going up against Stajcic every day, even from November to April, Toussiant made incredible strides.
Toussiant took the floor in April, with the Carolina Wolves NC 16u program, as an entirely new player, even from the 6’9” sophomore we saw during the high school year at Freedom Christian. He ran the floor like a deer. He showed the ball skills to put the ball on the floor and finish at and above the rim. He also showcased consistent range on his 3-point shot. Undoubtedly, Toussiant has gone from promising player to legitimate high major prospect, even as he still finds his consistency.
Granted, right now Toussiant is still a prospect, however he has shown that he is one that all levels of Division 1 basketball programs need to be watching. He is currently at the point where he is getting better, more confident, every time he steps on the floor. Coaches, put his name on your boards and make it a point to watch him in July.
