The North Carolina Top 80 has quickly established itself as the state’s most prestigious showcase camp. A great part of this game is all the names that you know are in attendance, but there are a lot of kids that earned their way to the camp by having a great season, or a great NC Phenom 150 camp. These kids come in with something to prove, and provide great matchups.
Coming into an event where the majority of players will earn scholarships to play basketball in college, it can be overwhelming. Here we will look at some match ups that may pique your interest.
Match Up #1
Point Guards
Jalen Sanders – Brandon Childress – Jordan Shephard – Dennis Smith
5’11” Junior Jalen Sanders (North Rowan) – Sanders wins. He does so in a tough and gritty manner that is infectious for his team. He carries early offers from Georgia Southern and Western Carolina.
5’11” Junior Brandon Childress (Wesleyan Christian) – Childress can flat out shoot the basketball. He runs the pick and roll well, and he leads his teams to wins. Last year Childress won the NC Top 80’s Mr Playmaker award. He is committed to Wake Forest.
6’2 Junior Jordan Shepherd (Asheville Christian) – Shepherd is a new name to this list, however he is deserving of being here. He is blessed with a quick first step and explosion at the rim. Shepherd carries four (4) offers from App State, Western Carolina, Middle Tennessee, and Furman.
6’2 Junior Dennis Smith (Trinity Christian) – When he is locked in, Smith is the best point guard in high school basketball. Period. He has all the tools, gets wherever he wants, and makes a lot of people look silly in the process. Smith is a Top 5-10 prospect and should wind up a McDonald’s All American.
