NC Phenom 150 Exposure Camp Standouts
Class of 2018

The great thing about the NC Phenom 150 Platform is that anyone can come to show out. The reputation is known throughout the region that this camp is the region’s launching pad, the bar for talent. If you do well at the NC Phenom 150, you know you can play.

Here are a few 9th graders (2018) that not only showed up, but also showed out.

5’10” Kody Shubert – Lincoln Charter

Shubert is a new name to the Phenom Hoops staff. We became fans after watching him in the NCHSAA 1A Western Semi Finals, and really liked what he did. Shubert further solidified our thoughts about him at camp, he was able to dictate pace and get where he wanted on the floor.

The consummate floor general, Shubert had the ball on a string and eyes in the back of his head. As a point guard, he won all of his games, his team averaged over 80 points per win, and everyone was smiling the entire time. Shubert is a point guard to watch, as he makes the game easier for his team.

6’8” Jude Akubeze – Prominence Academy

Perhaps the biggest physical presence in camp, Akubeze dominated his area each possession. The native Nigerian rebounded in and out of his area with strength and explosion.

The strong man moved to dunk everything within eight feet of the basket. This was our first viewing of Akubeze, but certainly will not be the last time we hear his name.

6’1 Keith Holmes – Bishop Sullivan

Holmes has been a loyal Phenom goer for the past couple of years. In the Fall Session 2, Holmes averaged over 19 points per game. Here he averaged 10 points, but did so with poise and at multiple levels. Holmes has a long frame and a good ability to handle in the half court. His father is a twin and his cousin (Coastal signee Kevin Holmes) is 6’8”. He has the look of a nice growth spurt ahead.

6’ Ricky Council III – Northern Durham

This name most likely sounds familiar to the common North Carolina prep basketball fan. His brother, Ricky Council II, just committed to Providence.

Ricky III is a skilled perimeter scorer with the ability to score off the catch or create for himself off a dribble or two. Ricky III has some natural growth and strength to develop, but his brother Ricky II ended up 6’4”/210. Natural tools are there and he comes by it honestly.

6’5” Anthony Hicks – North Forsyth

The sign of a true prospect, especially this early, is their progression each time out. Hicks has always been a guy that looks the part, and while watching him you can see that he had some tools. However, toward the end of the season it started to click. In this camp, Hicks showed good poise and pace.

He did not force anything, but showed the ability to handle the ball and set up the offense. Hicks still has some growth as he develops, but his natural tools are far ahead of many his age. Look for this one to be a common name soon.

6’5” Andreas Fuller – Village Christian

Fuller missed a bit of the year with an injury this season, however prior to his injury he was starting on his school’s varsity team. While in camp he only averaged 4 points, but his numbers did not tell he entire story.

Fuller has a great frame and plays with a high motor. He got his hands on a lot of deflections and defended multiple areas with a purpose. While his offensive game needs some tightening, he has some nice tools to work with.
