Programs at the next level are always looking for a big man that can man the middle in the coming years. But big’s always seem to impact the game in so many ways.  One can be long and athletic, others have the size and can play bully ball, or possibly a mixture of both.

And at times, it may take a little while for big men to catch the eyes of college coaches.

Well, one big man in the state of North Carolina is starting to grab the attention of several college coaches and it may be only a matter of time until he becomes a bigger household name.

6’8 2020 Alex Holt for Team Phoenix/ Lexington HS showcased his full potential at the Phenom Hoops David Rose MDC, holding his ground down low in the paint, rebounding at a high level, and displaying a soft touch around the rim.

But it really shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone of his abilities, as he showed it all throughout his junior season at Lexington, averaging 13.0 points and 13.9 rebounds per game this past season.

At the David Rose MDC though, Holt showed that he can have an impact on a game that college coaches would love to have.

“This weekend (at the David Rose MDC), it definitely showed me that I can be productive against any type of team, whether that’s scoring against and defending a more athletic player, or helping my team win in ways like dominating the glass when I wasn’t necessarily needed to score the ball,” Holt said.

That he did, which is why a list of schools have been expressing interest his way as of late.  Holt picked up his first offer not long ago from Morehead State, but schools like Army, The Citadel, Boston University, East Carolina, Presbyterian, Wofford, Mars Hill, Appalachian State, American, Princeton, VMI, Boise State, UNCG, Temple, and Elon have all been coming his way.

And those interests could turn into offers, as he continues to take visits in the coming month to East Carolina, Appalachian state, and Presbyterian.

“Just the normal recruiting conversations,” Holt said when asked what have these schools been talking to him about. “All of them were mostly just beginning to form a relationship with me and some of them extending me invites to their invite-only elite camps.”

It may be only a matter of time for Holt to start racking in more offers but from what Phenom Hoops saw at the event, this is a young man college coaches really need to keep a close eye on.
