Queen City Challenge – April 7-9 in Charlotte, NC

“The upside is clear for Wright, he has great length, handles the ball well and is very active on defense.”

His father is a legend in some circles. Sharone Wright Sr. has his jersey retired at Clemson University and was the number 6 overall pick in the 1994 NBA draft. However, Sharone Wright Jr. is a different player, one who is making his own way.

Wright already carries over 15 Division 1 basketball offers, from the likes of Clemson, VCU, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Auburn, Kansas State, Cal, Texas Tech and many others. He is an underclass alum of the NBPA Top 100 camp. While his dad was a post player, Wright is a guard.

In fact, Wright is a unique guard who does not have to look very far to see who he naturally compares to. Fellow South Carolinian and current South Carolina Gamecock PJ Dozier plays a very similar game and has a very similar frame to Wright. They are both lengthy, with great size for the position. More importantly, they are both comfortable on the ball or off the ball. They are both equally at ease distributing as they are attacking and finishing at the rim.

As with the majority of the top players in the state, Wright is an alum of the prestigious South Carolina Top 80. After his performance in 2016 we wrote, “Wright displayed a great attitude throughout the day to go along with a really good basketball IQ. He is athletic when he is attacking the basket. He has the ability to defend smaller guards or bigger wings and is a great player with a very bright future.”

Wright is projected to conservatively end up in the 6’8” range, and therein lies the unique nature of this prospect. His father is 7’ and his mother is around 6’2” and Wright is in the midst of a growth spurt as Wright started his sophomore year of high school around 6’2” and he just completed his junior year at 6’6”. With the continued physically growth, his game has continued to improve as well.

He will be playing this travel season with the Karolina Khaos program. Already ranked as a Top 100 prospect, his best basketball is still ahead of him.

Make sure you watch Wright take on some of the top prospects in the region in the Queen City Challenge, April 7-9 in Charlotte, NC. The level of play will be extremely high!
