The look test is a real thing and walking onto the court Dereon Seabron passes the look test with flying colors. After his performance at the prestigious Virginia Top 80 Seabron’s talent has rapidly caught up to his frame as a player who needs to be watched closely.

Seabron showed a lot of development each time he steps on the floor. He has grown to be a full 6’6” with a wing span around 6’10”. Playing among some of the best Virginia has to offer, Seabron showcased a full skill set. He always seemed to be around the ball on defense and on the boards. He has great anticipation and natural instincts. Seabron also showcased his ball skills from the wing as well as range on his jump shot.

Seabron is a name which has been on Phenom Hoops’ radar for a few years. Phenom Hoops Virginia guru Frank Bennett was one of the first to write about Seabron back in 2015, even then Bennett wrote, “One of Virginia’s most gifted 2018’s Dereon Seabron oozes with athleticism.  Lanky and strong Dereon is quick, handles the ball very well and gets wherever he wants to on the court.  He can shoot the three pointer with good consistency and shoot with equal consistency off the bounce.  Dereon, who is terrific in the open floor is a matchup problem for defenders given his quickness and length and uses that advantage to aggressively attack the basket where he is an excellent finisher with serious bounce, can finish with either hand!  His explosiveness allows him to be effective in traffic and for a high scoring player he is an excellent passer.  Dereon has very good defensive footwork and lateral quickness.  He can guard either wing position as well as in the post.”

Seabron has always had natural skill. After watching him in the 2017 Virginia Top 80 we wrote, “Like Calhoun, Seabron has taken the next step in his game. Already carrying 4 low major offers, it is time Seabron starts to see an uptick. He is very long and has a great feel for being around the ball. He seemed to always come up with the loose ball or the deflection. Seabron has a solid wing handle as he got downhill with only 1 or 2 dribbles. Seabron showed to be a consistent 3-point shooter as well. There is still upside to go, but he is well on his way.”

Currently Seabron carries offers from Hampton, Mount St Mary’s, Norfolk State and Radford. He is playing this Summer with the Team Loaded 757 program as one of their featured players. His best basketball is clearly ahead of him and he has upside to go. Monitor closely he has a full bag of tools.
