He walks onto the court and you immediately take notice of the 6'5' sophomore. He is every bit of 210 pounds of lengthy and chiseled basketball prospect. When you watch him play, you immediately notice his skill set and explosion.

Jamal King has a chance to be a special type of player, this much is evident right off the bat. Even against elite talent, King is tough to stop when he turns the corner and gets downhill. He has great balance, he has great touch, and he is very strong with great length and explosion.

King is still figuring out the game. He has great perimeter skills and a solid wing handle as well. He has a tendency to fall in love with this jump shot, and with the confidence he has in his shot and handle, he has a tendency to create a much more difficult shot for himself than necessary.

We want to reiterate that he is young, he is still learning the game, and more importantly he is still learning his game. King is still relatively unknown as a player. Regional and national ranking services don't know about him yet. That will change quickly however, possibly as soon as he takes the stage at the prestigious North Carolina Top 80 next month. He has all the tools to be tracking as a big time prospect. Already this year he has taken visits to the likes of Georgia Tech, UConn, Ohio State, Georgetown and others. That level, at this point, feels about right.

He is a small town kid who doesn't necessarily like the big city look,''I like the small town feel, I want to go to a school that isn't in a big city. It's how I've grown up, it's comfortable.''King is very self-aware of his game, very self-aware of his performance and what his strengths are.

So many times prospects will go out and try to do things on the court they hear they cannot. A slasher will shoot, a scorer will pass, or a slower guy will defend on an island. Sometimes, prospects have a tendency to over compensate by moving away from what has made them a high level prospect to begin with. King is still trying to figure his game out. King stated,'I am a scorer, I am confident, I can shoot the ball and am athletic. I got away from that in this game, they weren't falling.''King went on to say,''I am watching a lot of Kobe and Deangelo Russell. I am looking at their footwork, how the come off screens. I am working a lot on the pick and roll right now.'

King has all the physical tools and skill set. He is very articulate and is certainly not afraid to work hard. By all accounts, he stays in the gym and is very aware of the direction in which his game needs to head in.

After his performance with Team United in the 2016 Phenom Hoops Challenge the exact sentiments of this article were echoed by National Analyst Patrick Obrien,''You can tell that scoring is in his game but he did his best work when he attacked the rim because simply with his size and ability, not many can stop him when he attacks the paint and don't think many would want to.' He is a big-time athlete with a really good frame for a shooting guard.'

King stands as a 6'5' 210 pound sophomore in high school. His Wayne Country Day team made it to the quarterfinals of the NCISAA 1A state playoffs, so he plays with and against good competition. This season he averaged 22 points on 53% shooting from the field and 42% from 3 with a whopping 90 3-pointers made. He also added 11 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks per game. He is a big time prospect.

During our viewing of him on Saturday King finished with 24 points, 6 boards, 3 steals and 3 blocks. He was 8-26 from the field and 7-7 from the free throw line. The first half was an array of step back 18 to 22 foot jump shots. In fact, we didn't chart this, but we cannot remember a paint touch for him until half way through the 3rd'quarter.

However, halfway through the 3rd'quarter, Jamal King became dominate. From that point until the end of the game King was 6-12 from the field and 7-7 from the free throw line. When King utilized the drive to set up the jump shot, Greenfield School could not stop him, it was quite the show he put on.

King is young, however King is one that the high major schools need to be tracking closely. To take things a step further, if it all clicks for King (and it is not far off from all clicking) he is one the blue bloods across the country should be tracking.
